Invitation to Rest

Come with Me—enter now
a place of quiet rest.
Lay down the works you labored in,
even those in which you did your best.

Leave with God unfinished efforts,
every loss you could not win.
He is your strength, and He will complete
what His call began within.

Come aside and rest awhile;
do not be impatient now.
The Prince of Peace draws near to touch
your weary, fevered brow.

He lifts you from the rush and noise
of life’s relentless street,
and draws you into still repose
before His sacred feet.

Into His caring hands commit
the race that you have run.
Ah yes—He understands the weight
of all that’s left undone.

O glorious thought, O blessed truth,
O promise tried and sure:
He will not leave unfinished
the work He will secure.

Let now your restless, hurried heart
be quiet in your breast—
for deep within, you know His way
alone is best.

So come, abide, and hide away
within His secret place;
your strength renewed, your vision cleared
as you behold His face.

And gazing on His countenance,
you find your whole being raised,
till spirit, soul, and body rest
in Spirit to spirit praise.

Then with the dawning of each day
you’ll rise already blessed—
with strength sufficient for the task,
and peace…
the gift of perfect rest.
